Finding Life in Life Insurance

Why You Need Life Insurance

Life insurance is money distributed in the event of your death. It’s all about giving your loved ones, dependents or a charity the money they will need to sustain life without you. One of our associate's recently had a death in the family and the family member had three life insurance policies. These were used to pay for the funeral costs, debts, and loans he had outstanding.

Life insurance is vital for most people, which will bring both the best and worst in people. It's a very astute idea to have a monetarily responsible person handle the estates and policies once they are needed. Having a responsible person ensures everyone you care about is taken care of until they can grieve properly and find a way to continue.

If you have any questions about Life Insurance or would like to have a free financial consultation to prepare you for the issues which may arise, contact us through our website www.1ssinsurance.com or come into our office at 3568 W 4800 S, Roy, UT 84067. Let us help you be secure for the future.

Winter Auto Checklist

The Preventative Measures

Getting your car serviced before the storm is one of the best preventative measures. Making sure that your car is ready for the winter before it gets here is always a smart idea. When you get your car serviced, make sure to get your battery voltage checked. Even your engine's cooling system needs a check to be sure it doesn't expand too much and crack the engine. Don't forget to have them check your tires as well.

Also check the windshield washer reservoir, your windshield wipers and defrosters. You'll be grateful to have these working properly when in the middle of a snow storm. Another aspect that most people don't think of is making sure that your floor mats don't interfere with your pedals. If you hit a patch of black ice, the last thing you’ll want to worry about is if the floor mats are in the way.

Keep an ice scraper handy, preferably with a brush, and have an emergency kit with blankets, jumper cables, flashlights and warning devices for any season.

The most important part of your check list should be the protection for you and your loved ones. Inclement weather is just one thing you’ll need to worry about on the roadways and is fairly easy to plan for. Having proper insurance protection is as important as the proper fuel for driving. Give us a call and we’ll verify you are properly protected for all possibilities this winter. You can find us at www.1ssinsurance.com or at our office. Winter here we come.

The Importance of Proper Auto Insurance Coverage

Since 1966, The Corolla has always been considered “economic and safe.” It always has good gas mileage compared to its competition and always has been considered a top safety pick. Having always been a strong line of vehicles, the latest news might be surprising.

The Good News

It’s always had high expert ratings, as well as a low price for those ratings. Getting 26 mpg in-town and 34 on highway is difficult in a sedan, but Toyota manages to pull it off. In the past, they've had very few problems with safety. It's never had significant problems, just moderate ones.

The Bad News

The newest addition to the Corolla family is taking another look at its framework. In its latest crash tests, it got one of the lowest scores when tested for impact on the driver's side. When it collided with something equal to a highway divider focused on the driver's front-side, the driver could suffer severe head and neck injuries. On top of the possibility of death from those injuries, the driver could lose the left leg and/or have significant damage to the right leg.

The Best News

No matter what type of vehicle you drive, you want insurance that fully protects you in the event of an accident. At 1 Stop Shop Insurance, we want you to be protected. Health care in Utah

With the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act approaching its inception, residents will have a chance to attend a nonpartisan presentation that will educate them about the imminent changes in health insurance.  The presentation will be held at the Weber county library and inform the general public about health care policies and afford-ability which were initiated nearly seven years ago. All age groups are welcome to attend the presentation, which is following on the heels of nearly 50 other presentations made by the Utah Health Policy Project (UHPP).  Today's presentation will go over several points that might impact attendees. Part of it will focus on the beginnings of the Affordable Care Act. Also discussed will be the impact upon seniors, a group UHPP believes will be able to educate their children and grandchildren who will qualify for the new health care laws.  In a surprise move, the Supreme Court upheld the individual mandate in a 5-4 vote that was released this morning, relieving insurance companies of what would have been a heavy burden under the 2010 Health Care Reform Law. Chief Justice John Roberts sided with more liberal justices in considering the penalty a tax that was within Congress' right to enact.

Cashing out

There was a survey that said that 55 percent of seniors have allowed their life insurance policies to lapse, viewing it as a liability instead of an asset. Now why is that? Well no one knows but 80% of the adults 66 and over aren't aware that they can sell an existing life insurance policy for a cash pay out. Now is this worth it? Well no because what if you you sell out then something happens to you? Well that will leave your next to kin in bad shape. The survey also uncovered that for 24 percent of respondents the reason they first bought life insurance has changed, and anxieties about paying for long-term health care still weigh heavily on seniors as two-in-five are concerned they will not be able to pay for long term medical care during their retirement years. The buying company pays the remainder of the policy premiums and collects the full benefit when the policy seller dies. Often a settlement provides five to eight times the amount offered if the policy was surrendered back to the insurance company.

Fall Home Safety Checklist

Here at 1 Stop Shop Insurance, we are concerned about you and your loved ones' safety, which is why we bring you a the Fall Home Safety Checklist. We know how easy it is to forget those small things that end up costing more than they should when a problem arises. This checklist is just a friendly reminder of things to prepare for the upcoming winter so you can keep the small disasters at bay and do what you do best!

  • Turn off the lawn irrigation system. This prevents your pipes from bursting in the winter and flooding the house when the spring thaw comes. This can save you anywhere from $10,000 to $75,000!
  • Check all the weatherstripping around doors and windows and replace them if needed. This can prevent heat loss from the house and save you money on your heating bill. Not to mention that you won't be as cold in the winter!
  • Check for overgrown branches and trim them if needed. These branches that hang over the house can often interfere with power lines or roofing if the icicles are long or heavy enough. This can save you from serious damage to your house.
  • Drain all of your outside faucets and make sure that their water supply is turned off as well. This can also prevent flooding.
Just a few things to help make your winter comfortable and your spring disaster-free!

Equal health insureance

some company may be having second thoughts about the health insurance it offers to your spouse. That means you might wind up paying more for that coverage or have to switch your spouse to another plan as early as next year. Some employers are considering adding a surcharge to cover the health care expenses of their workers' spouses. Those surcharges average about 100 a month, or roughly double what they averaged a couple years ago. That's sad really. With the economy is so bad we are working on ways to fix it. Twenty percent of nearly 600 large employers in a survey completed earlier this year charged a spousal surcharge in 2013. An additional 13 percent plan to do so next year, according to the study, which was conducted by benefits consultant and the non profit. The changes, which many companies will announce as part of the open enrollment period this fall for health plans that start , are an effort by employers to control rising health care costs. Benefits consultants say that total could grow next year when the health care overhaul starts requiring most U.S. residents to have insurance. In some cases, benefits experts blame the difference on the fact that the spouse is often a woman. Women tend to use the health care system more as they move through their 20s and into middle age, especially if they have children.
